The literary gardens are an initiative of the European Route of Historic Gardens to promote historic gardens from a heritage, cultural, tourist and educational point of view and to raise awareness of the need to preserve them. All European historic gardens can join in the celebration of this day and thus highlight their importance as gardens of inspiration for literature.
The vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councillor for Sustainability and the Environment, Aurora Ribot, stressed that “this is the first time that a programme of activities on literature and historic gardens has been organised in Raixa”, adding that “the department seeks to highlight the importance of the Raixa gardens, which are of great historical, artistic and social value and are accessible to all the citizens of Mallorca”.
For her part, the island’s Director of the Environment, Inmaculada Férriz, explained that “the programme of activities is an opportunity to approach other historical moments and nature interpreted in a different way. Raixa and its gardens are a place of beauty and peace and at the same time a great heritage that affirms our identity and history and the mutual exchanges that make up our cultural diversity”.
