The Platform Against Megacruises, made up of some thirty social, civic and environmental organisations, is launching the campaign “Off the ladder: this tourism is unsustainable”, to continue our tireless work to raise public awareness and lobby institutions to limit this type of tourism, which has a strong environmental, health, economic and social impact on the city.

At the gates of summer, at a time when it seems that the path chosen by the institutions in charge of looking after our welfare (the State, through the Port Authority, and the Government of the Balearic Islands) is to continue promoting an unsustainable model of tourism, from the Platform Against Mega Cruises we want to mobilize citizens more than ever.

What does the campaign consist of?

The general lines of the campaign in the coming months will be:

Launch of the campaign: on networks, on Friday 22 April, in person, on Angel Sunday, 24 April, at Bellver Castle.
Presentation of the campaign to the institutions: today we met with the Minister of Economic Model, Tourism and Labour, Mr. Iago Negueruela.
Creation of an independent air quality control system, through the installation of a network of sensors to measure, in a reliable and transparent way, the impact of cruise ships on the environment and health.
We will provide the public, the scientific community and institutions with regular data on the pollution levels of this type of ship.
Carrying out various protest actions to raise awareness and mobilise the public.
Awareness-raising campaign with the cruise sector, so that they are aware of the impact this type of tourism has on the environment and social life in the cities they visit, and on the health of residents and cruise passengers themselves.
We will continue to carry out constant advocacy actions with the institutions, which are gradually bearing fruit.
The campaign also hopes to raise funds to carry out all these actions in the coming months.

To continue our work we invite all those who love Mallorca, its territory and its inhabitants, to join the summer campaign of the Platform against the Megacruises. With your support, we will carry out a series of activities to continue collecting and showing evidence of the impact of the mega-cruises, and lobbying institutions to limit their arrival.
