The councillor of Treasury and Public Function, Josep Lluís Colom, has presented the basic training course for firefighter-driver of the Consell de Mallorca, after the selective process of the Fire Service of Mallorca.
This training will conclude the competitive examination to fill 32 positions in the Fire Service of Mallorca, the largest offer of positions in the fire brigade in the last 15 years in the insular institution. The course consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The training is compulsory and eliminatory in order to be able to join the Fire Service.
The councillor for the Treasury and Public Function has stressed that “with the 32 places in the competition, a large part of the vacancies that have been generated will be covered, with the rest being filled by interim staff from the new pool created for this purpose. This is a clear demonstration of the Consell de Mallorca’s commitment to the essential service provided by Mallorca’s firefighters. The presentation was also attended by the island’s director of Public Function, Antonio Espases, and the island’s director of Emergencies, Pedro Orfila.
32 students will take the course. They are those who have obtained the highest scores in the competitive examination process, and who did not have this specific training, after having completed the general and specific part questionnaire, the physical tests, the psychological evaluation and the merit-based competition.
The course consists of 8 modules, more than 70 subjects and lasts 670 hours, of which 478 are practical. The main topics of the training are fire control and extinguishing, rescue and rescue, techniques and management of resources, and natural and anthropic phenomena, among others.
The training will be carried out by 43 teachers, as well as collaborating personnel. The theoretical part will take place in the assembly hall of the Hogar de la Juventud, while the practical part will take place in fire stations, in different locations on the island, and even in some places on the mainland.
This call for competitive examinations will consolidate the staff of the Mallorca Fire Service with 32 permanent positions and will also serve to create a pool to fill 40 new positions.
