Paco Sordo has been awarded the National Comic Prize, corresponding to the year 2022, for his work ‘El pacto’ (publishing house Nuevo Nueve), as proposed by the jury.

The prize, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, is worth 20,000 euros and is intended to distinguish the best work in this speciality published in any of the official languages of Spain during the year 2021.

The jury singled out his work ‘El pacto’ “for its exercise in genealogy of the medium, which takes us back to the Bruguera era, and for projecting this legacy into the present and the future. For its original and thrilling script, which is a true tribute to Spanish comics”.

In addition, the jury pointed out that “there are few works more singular and indicative of the strange times we live in than this artefact, apparently humorous but deep down deeply existential. The work masterfully plays with reality and fiction, as well as offering us an edition that is coherent with the author’s proposal”.
