Under the curatorship of the writer Carmen Domingo, the event tackles the subject of war from the point of view of women, who reflected on the conflicts in their countries of origin in order to portray what happened.

The event begins at 6.30 p.m. and consists of the reading of short fragments of texts written by women authors who talk about the war conflicts that took place in the 19th and 20th centuries and their repercussions.

The selected authors include Elena Fortún, Montserrat Roig, Almudena Grandes, Aida Cartagena Portalatín, Nellie Campobello, Alaíde Foppa and María Elena Walsh.

Women Writers’ Day is a commemoration promoted by the National Library (BNE) together with the Spanish Federation of Women Managers, Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs (FEDEPE) and the Classical and Modern Women’s Association. Association for gender equality in culture, since 2016.

Every year this celebration takes place on the Monday closest to the feast of Saint Teresa of Jesus (15 October) and its aim is to vindicate the work and legacy of women writers throughout history with the reading of representative fragments of their works.

For each edition, a curator is appointed to select the theme from which a selection of texts by Spanish and Latin American women writers of cultural and social prestige is made.

As every year, the auditorium of the BNE leads the reading of fragments by women writers and in the Balearic Islands the Can Sales Public Library – as a library of the State Public Library Network – will be part of it for the seventh consecutive year.
