The Govern will ensure the provision of maritime transport service between Eivissa and Formentera at early and late hours, specifically in the time slots between 5 and 6 am and 22.30 and 23.30 at night, as it is a service of general interest to residents of the island of Formentera.
Keep in mind that the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the rise in fuel prices have aggravated the economic deficit in the provision by shipping companies of maritime transport service between the Port of Eivissa and the port of Sabina in Formentera early and late in the day.
Given this situation, the Govern has launched a procedure to temporarily alleviate, through aid to shipping companies, the deficit caused by the provision of this essential service for the island of Formentera. The aid will be retroactive, from mid-October until the end of the low season.
At the same time, the government is seeking a definitive solution to guarantee this service. For this reason, a contract has been drawn up for the provision of this maritime transport service at the first and last minute in those cases where there is no supply on the market, taking into account the principles of publicity and free competition through the Public Service Obligation (OSP).
This measure is included in the draft Maritime Transport Decree, which develops the Maritime Transport Law of the Balearic Islands, and which is in the final stages of processing. The draft decree is currently awaiting the opinion of the Consultative Council, after which it will be sent to the European Commission and finally approved by the Governing Council.
