Nine municipalities of the Balearic Islands take part in the “Recycle for them” campaign to fight breast cancer

The councillor for the Environment and Territory, Miquel Mir, the director general of Waste and Environmental Education, Sebastià Sansó, the councillor for Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment of Son Servera, Miguel Ángel Espases, and the manager of Ecovidrio in the Balearic Islands, Roberto Fuentes, presented the “Recycle glass for them” campaign this Friday, which will be carried out in nine municipalities of the archipelago.

The campaign will raise funds for breast cancer research through 18 pink containers that will be installed in the municipalities of Son Servera, Muro, Andratx, Pollença, Es Migjorn Gran, Alaior, Formentera, Sant Antoni and in the town of Can Picafort (Santa Margalida). Ecovidrio will transform the glass containers deposited in these containers into a donation to the Sandra Ibarra Foundation for solidarity against cancer.

Recycle for them

The Balearic Islands are the leading region in Spain in terms of glass container recycling. In 2021, 42,839 tonnes were recycled, an average of 36.5 kg per inhabitant. As for the rate of containers, the archipelago has, on average, one for every 204 inhabitants, with a total of 5,756 igloos throughout the territory.
