Joan-Carles Mèlich Sangrà has been awarded the National Essay Prize, corresponding to the year 2022, for his work ‘La fragilidad del mundo’, at the proposal of the jury meeting today.

The prize, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sport, is worth 20,000 euros.

The jury singled out ‘La fragilidad del mundo’ “for being a profoundly knowledgeable and courageous essay on the contemporary world. In this work, Joan-Carles Mèlich carries out a healthy critical exercise that reminds us that we are not the sole owners of the Planet; a necessary thought in an era like the present, in which individualism is so much in demand”.

Biography
Joan-Carles Mèlich Sangrà, born in Barcelona in 1961, holds a PhD in Philosophy and Arts from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he is a lecturer in Philosophy of Education.

He has published, among others, works such as ‘Filosofía de la finitud’ (2002), ‘Ética de la compasión’ (2010), ‘Lógica de la crueldad’ (2014) and ‘La sabiduría de lo incierto’ (2019).
