Fifteen researchers from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) appear on the Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) 2022 list, compiled by the Webofscience Group, a Clarivate Analytics platform, which brings together the world’s most influential scientists. This ranking identifies scientists who have produced multiple papers that rank in the top 1% of citations in their field and year of publication, demonstrating a high level of influence in the scientific community.

The methodology for determining the selection of the most influential researchers is based on data and analysis developed by bibliometric experts at the Web of Science Group’s Institute for Scientific Information.

In its sixth edition, the HCR includes a total of 6,938 researchers from 70 countries, who stand out for their excellent contributions to scientific knowledge and for their influence in their respective areas of expertise. It measures the publication of highly cited articles between 2002 and 2022. By country, the ranking is led by the United States, which accounts for 38.3% of the total number of the most influential scientists (2,764), followed by China and the United Kingdom.
