The Waste and Energy Consortium declares an emergency situation to facilitate operations in the dismantling of the windmill.

The manufacture of the metal parts that will secure the structure of the damaged wind turbine in Milan and enable its subsequent dismantling is already underway. The order has now been placed with the company that will carry out the work, with which permanent contact is being maintained for the rapid execution of the operation. This will consist of two phases: one hand, the first phase of work to guarantee the structural safety of the wind turbine, and then, the second phase, is work to dismantle the machine.

Once the safety parts of the structure have been manufactured, they will have to be transported to Menorca to be fitted and welded. In the best-case scenario, 7 days will be needed for the manufacture and arrival of the parts on the island, so the best estimates are that work on the first phase in Milan could begin at the end of the second week of December. The estimate is that work on phase 1 will take 7 days if weather conditions are favourable. Once this first phase is completed, the dismantling of the wind turbine will begin.

Given the situation caused by the appearance of a crack in the structure of wind turbine 4 of the wind farm, the closest to the access to the Milan Waste Management Area, and the need to move forward with a quick solution, the Waste and Energy Consortium of Menorca has formalised the declaration of emergency for both the wind farm and the Milan waste treatment plant. The declaration seeks to continue guaranteeing the safety of the area, as well as to be able to facilitate the operations and procedures necessary to begin as soon as possible the work of shoring up and subsequent dismantling of the windmill, which would consequently allow the waste treatment plant to return to normality.

While the work at the Milan Wind Farm is in progress, special waste management operations have been set up, as the waste treatment plant facilities remain closed. The waste collection service in all the municipalities of Menorca is being maintained as normal for all fractions, with some timetable adaptations. Temporary storage has been set up for the subtraction fraction and pruning waste, among other non-hazardous waste, at the Milà 1 site, and later, when normality is restored, they will be transferred to the facilities that are currently paralysed. As for the fractions from the separate collection of glass, paper-cardboard and light packaging, they are being temporarily stored at the facilities of several authorised waste managers, to be sent directly to recycling plants or to the Milà plant once normality has been restored.
