The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has launched a call for aid worth 192 million euros to promote the implementation of circular economy projects in companies.

According to the order, which has been published in the Official State Gazette, grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, with four categories of eligible actions: Reduction of consumption of virgin raw materials, Ecodesign and placing on the market of products made under ecodesign schemes, Improvement of waste management and digital transformation of processes that improve the traceability of products and their waste, favour the efficient use of resources or reduce waste generation.

In this way, the grants respond to the provisions of the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) in Circular Economy, approved by the Council of Ministers on 8 March 2022, which comprises 2 Lines of Action, one focused on actions in key sectors (textiles, plastics and capital goods for renewable energies) and another aimed at transversal actions to promote the circular economy in companies.

Thus, this call is framed in line 2 of the PERTE and will be financed with the “Next Generation” funds, according to the provisions of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).

Improving industrial competitiveness and innovation
The purpose of the grants is to promote the sustainability and circularity of industrial and business processes in order to improve the competitiveness and innovation of the industrial fabric through the circular economy. These subsidies have been in great demand by sectors and companies, which submitted 1,224 project proposals following the opening of the call for expressions of interest in January 2021.

MITECO has set up a mailbox for queries, as reported at the information day on 28 November, where the rules and call for proposals were announced.
