The Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears

On January 11, at 8 p.m., at the Teatro Principal de Palma, the Orquesta Sinfónica Illes Balears will offer the third concert of the cycle Teatro Principal de Palma in honour of the guitarist and composer Gabriel Estarellas. A tribute to the entire career of one of the most important musicians of the Balearic Islands.

The Simfònica will be in charge of performing for the first time at the Concert del Retorn d’Estarellas with the guitar soloist Antonio Perelló. A very special evening since it will also be conducted by his son Gabriel Estarellas Pascual.

This concert is part of the OSIB’s Sonorous Islands program, a project that vindicates the work of composers and performers of the Balearic Islands from research, interpretation and adding a more contemporary repertoire.

Guitarist and composer Gabriel Estarellas has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the National Orchestra of Spain, RTVE Orchestra, Madrid Symphony Orchestra, Madrid Community Orchestra, Queen Sofia Orchestra, Spanish Chamber Orchestra, Galician Philharmonic, Symphonic Orchestras of Castilla y León, Valencia, Balearic Islands, Malaga, Murcia, etc. He has toured Europe, Central America, South America, Asia and the United States. He has been a professor of guitar at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. In 2009 he was named Honorary Professor at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa, Peru. He has given numerous master classes in Europe and South America. For several years he was chief conductor of the “Orquesta de Cámara Ciudad de Manacor” in Mallorca.

The concert program will be completed with the Serenade for strings by E. Elgar and the Symphony No. 3 “Scottish” by F. Mendelssohn. Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased through Simfònica’s website and at the box office of the Teatro Principal de Palma.
