The Govern de les Illes Balears thanks the Guardia Civil for the successful search and location of an eleven-year-old boy

The Govern de les Illes Balears expresses its gratitude to the Guardia Civil in the successful search and discovery of an eleven-year-old boy who disappeared this morning in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. The child suffers from autism spectrum disorder and speech difficulties.

He disappeared this morning when he got lost during a school excursion. The Emergency Services 112, which depends on the Conselleria de Presidencia y Administraciones Públicas del Govern de les Illes Balears, received a call from a teacher at noon informing that during an excursion the child had run away in the direction of the green area of Son Carrió. At that moment, the Emergency Service started the action protocol, alerting all the relevant bodies.

At first, the local police of the municipality intervened without success. Around one o’clock noon, the Civil Guard appeared at the scene. The Civil Protection of the municipality and adjacent municipalities have also been activated to collaborate in the investigation of the missing child and the Fire Department of the Consell de Mallorca. At two o’clock in the afternoon the Civil Guard helicopter service ‘Cuco’ was activated, and at half past two o’clock, the Civil Guard found the child’s backpack. During the afternoon the psychologist service was also activated for the relatives (mother and father of the child) who went to the scene. Finally, at five o’clock in the afternoon, the child was found.

The Civil Guard has been who has led the investigation operation that has lasted almost four hours. And that ended with the finding of the child in good health near where he had disappeared and without needing medical assistance.

Together with the Guardia Civil have participated in the search operation, members of Civil Protection of both Sant Llorenç and nearby municipalities, Firefighters of the Consell de Mallorca, Firefighters of Palma, Local Police and members of the Service of the Directorate General of Emergencies to whom the Govern de les Illes Balears also thanks for their invaluable work.

The general director of Emergencies and Interior, Sebastià Sureda, has moved to Sant Llorenç des Cardassar and has pointed out that the performance of the Civil Guard “as well as the rest of the bodies that have participated in the investigation” has been “unbeatable”. There was also the general director of Early Childhood, Attention to Diversity and Educational Improvement, Neus Riera, who explained that from the Govern “we are very happy because he has been found and is well”. In addition, Riera thanked the teaching staff of the school, the volunteers and the security forces for having acted with such “efficiency and urgency”. The concern, he added, “was extreme” due to the low temperatures of the last few days, and for this reason “all the resources available to us have been activated”.
