Take place in Bellver at the weekend with beginners and young promises

The VII Challenge Escolar Consell de Mallorca is back, a race aimed at young people that will reach its seventh edition in 2024 with the support of the island’s institution. The circuit was presented today at the Sant Ferran sports centre, which will take place on Sunday the 21st of January at Bellver Castle from 10.30 am. There will be three categories for men and women, differentiated by level: children (5.4 km), juvenile (9 km) and cadet (16.2 km), and a fourth for promising young runners. The circuit, in the form of a time trial, will count towards the Balearic school finals classification.

The presentation was attended by the second vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, the island director of Sports, Toni Prats, the president of the Cycling Federation, Antonio Bauzá, and the race organiser, on behalf of the company Unisport Consulting, Manolo Hernández.

This year’s edition is expected to attract a large number of participants, with X.XXX registrations already confirmed. Children’s cycling is one of the leading sports in Mallorca: “One of the reasons why the Consell de Mallorca supports it, as a benchmark for school-age sport and an emblematic event,” said the councillor. In 2023 there were 265 federated cards in Mallorca, corresponding to runners who compete at a national level.

The Challenge Escolar, created in 2015, suffered a break in the calendar between 2020-2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and now resumes the tradition in the framework of the Challenge Femenina, which premieres the circuit in this edition.
