President Galmés, Vice-president Bestard and Councillor Amate have met with members of the fishing sector at the fish market in Palma.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, together with the second vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, and the councillor for Local Development, Pilar Amate, visited Palma’s fish market early this morning. After the auction, and in the presence of the president of the Balearic Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds, Domingo Bonnín, and the president of OP Mallorcamar, Pedro Mercant, they met with members of the island’s fishing sector. President Galmés announced that this year 100,000 euros will be earmarked for the ten fishermen’s guilds of Mallorca.

Earmarks 100,000 euros for the island’s fishermen’s associations
President Galmés assured that “with this aid we are showing our support and commitment to this primary sector. Their work is essential; the survival of the island’s fishing sector must be guaranteed. Moreover, its importance in the life and economy of the different fishing municipalities of Mallorca must be highlighted. Fishing is an essential part of our history, of our present and must also be an essential part of our future”.
67,000 euros grant for energy efficiency and technological improvements
In 2023, OP MallorcaMar took advantage of the call for subsidies to social economy entities granted by the Consell de Mallorca to make investments in their shops to improve energy efficiency, accessibility and technological equipment, for an amount of 67,700 euros.
Specifically, in the area of energy efficiency, an investment has been made to improve insulation, electrical installations, replacement of less efficient and polluting motors and appliances, and reduction of unnecessary energy losses. As for improvements in technological software, the acquisition of programmes that streamline processes, improve work routines more efficiently, reduce repetitive workloads for workers, and improve the customer experience.
For his part, Vice President Bestard pointed out that “it is very important to look after our fishermen, to defend their rights. As the protests by farmers these days show, having a strong primary sector is essential for Spain and the Spanish people. This government team will watch over our fishermen and the care and protection of our products, in this case, those from our sea”.
