Open call for grants for research centers in the Balearic Islands

The Directorate General for Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation has opened a call for grants for public research centers to acquire state-of-the-art scientific-technical equipment, install it and put it into operation. The deadline for submitting applications will be open until March 22.

The call is endowed with 2,087,200 euros, which come from the insularity fund, and is aimed at improving the infrastructures and equipment of the research centers.

Scientific and technical infrastructures and equipment are fundamental instruments for generating knowledge and developing excellent science through the services and means made available to the scientific community. In this way, they contribute to quality research, to the improvement of results and their impact, as well as to the international competitiveness of research groups. Precisely this framework has led the Government to consider the design of specific aids to invest in scientific and technical equipment that contribute to create a more competitive regional ecosystem of research, technological development and innovation in the Balearic Islands.

In this sense, Antoni Carmona, regional secretary of Innovation and Digital Society, explained that this call is a “very good opportunity to improve the equipment of the science system of the Balearic Islands” and break with the difficulties encountered by the centers of the Islands to access funding of this type in state or European calls.

In order to assess the proposals submitted, the call provides for an external evaluation phase that will analyze the excellence of the research team, the possibility of collaboration and networking, the quality and innovative nature of the equipment, the need for it in the research of the entity, the feasibility and operational experience and the socio-economic impact that is expected.
