The Ministry of Equality condemns two new murders by vicarious violence

The Ministry of Equality condemns two new murders by vicarious violence in the province of Almería. Two girls aged two and four years old were allegedly murdered by their father, who later committed suicide, on 17 March 2024. There were previous cases of gender violence against the alleged aggressor’s ex-partner and mother of the children.

With the confirmation of this case, the number of minors killed by gender violence in Spain rises to 4 in 2024 and to 54 since 2013, when these data began to be collected.

The Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, once again wish to express their absolute condemnation and rejection of these sexist murders and convey their full support to the families and friends of the victims. Both the minister and the delegate call for all efforts from the institutions, administrations and society as a whole to arrive in time and prevent more deaths.

The Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, would like to remind you that the 016 telephone number, online queries via email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel at 600 000 016 and the online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es/, operate 24 hours a day, every day of the week. At 016 you can ask for advice on the resources available and the rights of victims of gender violence, as well as legal advice from 8am to 10pm every day of the week, with attention in 53 languages and a service adapted to possible situations of disability.

On the other hand, it also reminds that in an emergency situation you can call 112 or the emergency numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). In the event that it is not possible to make a call and in a dangerous situation, the ALERTCOPS application can be used, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation. These means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender violence. It is the duty of society as a whole.
