Fisheries and the Natural Environment launches a control and inspection campaign on social networks to detect cases of illegal fishing

In this regard, the Director General of Fisheries, Antoni M. Grau, explained that “in a context in which images and videos shared by amateur fishermen on social networks are increasingly proliferating, we have unfortunately detected that some of these publications show negligent attitudes or illegal activities. This phenomenon is not only limited to the exposure of questionable behaviour but there is also a worrying trend: followers emulate these practices and adopt irresponsible behaviour without being aware of the implications”, he added.

For all these reasons, to counteract this trend and prevent the escalation of such behaviour, the inspectors of the Directorate-General for Fisheries have launched a control and inspection campaign specifically aimed at tackling this problem.

So far, four cases of serious infringements have been recorded, which could lead to penalties of up to 30,000 euros.
