The Bit Foundation participates in the presentation of the European project CESAM

The Bit Foundation has participated in the presentation of CESAM, in the framework of the Innobal Office of the Directorate General for Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Government of the Balearic Islands.

During the “Alimentaria” fair (18, 19, 20, and 21 March in Barcelona) took place the presentation of the European project CESAM (Circular Economy and Sustainable Solutions for Agri-food in the Mediterranean), of which the Bit Foundation is a partner, along with other institutional partners and SMEs from the regions of Occitania, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

The Euroregion Pyrenees-Mediterranean, the coordinator of the project, has been in charge of presenting the milestones and next steps of the circular economy project to the agri-food sector at the stand of ACCION, the Agency for the Competitiveness of the Enterprise of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

The presentation was followed by a face-to-face networking event as part of the CESAM project. The event was aimed at SMEs and research centres working in the agri-food sector in the regions of Occitania, the Balearic Islands and Catalonia to foster collaborations for the development of solutions that can access the cascade funding offered by CESAM.

In addition, also within the framework of the European project, the Bit Foundation collaborated in the Open Innovation Challenge, organised by ACCIÓN, on 19 and 20 March, at its stand at the Alimentaria fair. This meeting consisted of scheduled B2B meetings between corporations (challenges) with technologies or solution providers, from agri-food or related sectors, about water recycling, packaging, recovery of by-products and waste reduction. The Bit Foundation has accompanied in this Open Innovation Challenge the company CIRCE Scientific, based in ParcBit, a company dedicated to the use of cocrystal technology to improve properties such as increased bioavailability, stability and solubility for nutraceutical and cosmetic applications, which has been able to hold meetings with the company Frit Ravich.

The active participation of the Bit Foundation as a partner in the CESAM project reinforces its role as a key player in promoting innovation and sustainability in the Balearic Islands, consolidating its commitment to the circular economy in the agri-food sector.

The CESAM project (Circular Economy and Sustainable Solutions for the Agri-Food Sector in the Mediterranean) brings together nine partners from the European regions of Occitania, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Four are institutional: Euroregion Pyrenees-Mediterranean, Agri sur ouest innovation, ACCION and Bit Foundation. And five are SMEs with specific investment needs: NewTimes, Asclepios Tech, Terracor, Derypol and GoZeroWaste.

With this consortium, the CESAM project aims to promote innovative circular economy and sustainability solutions for the three regions, with a strong potential for development in other European regions in industrial water treatment and recycling or concerted water use; packaging: eco-design / plastic-free, new materials or circular solutions; process optimisation and circular processes: waste reduction; co-product recovery.

The originality of this project lies in the cascade funding scheme, with an overall budget of 900,000 euros (maximum 30% of the total budget).
