The Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) is organising a video recording competition as part of the celebration of Saint George’s Day, the feast of the book, a date around which numerous activities related to the literary world and reading are organised. It should be noted that one of the central elements of this festival in the cultural sphere is the promotion of language and literature written in Catalan, by the aims of this institution.

The Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) announces the competition “Per Sant Jordi, mou la llengua”
For all these reasons, “Per Sant Jordi, mou la llengua” is an initiative of the IEB with a double objective: to promote the reading and consumption of literary works in Catalan among the young people of the Balearic Islands and to stimulate the creation and diffusion of audiovisual content on the Internet in Catalan. To achieve this, this video competition of literary recommendations has been launched, aimed at young readers between the ages of 14 and 20, with a registration period that will begin on 25 March and end on 15 April.
Participation must consist of recording a film, individually, in which a fragment of a literary work, whether narrative, theatre, comic, graphic novel, etc., is read in Catalan, together with a brief explanation of why the fragment was chosen. The productions must be published on YouTube, Instagram or TikTok, with the hashtag #PerSantJordiMoulaLlengua.
The competition will have three prizes in the same category, which will be determined by a jury, who will assess the overall originality and creativity, the quality of the content, the technical and linguistic quality, and the expressive capacity and ability to capture the viewer’s attention shown by each participant with their project. The prizes include a set of books and a board game in Catalan, tickets to concerts of music in Catalan, and tickets to sporting events.
The winners will be announced on 23 April, the feast of Saint George, during the recording of a podcast with Júlia Mérida at the stand of the Institute of Balearic Studies in Palma.
