The economic aid, which amounts to 1.15 million euros, will translate into 88 more horse races in 2024.

The Consell de Mallorca’s commitment to promoting the world of trotting is reflected in the financial contribution to the Balearic Trotting Federation, which in 2024 will receive a considerable increase in the subsidy, rising from 950,000 euros last year to 1,150,000 euros this year, representing an increase of 200,000 euros, an increase of 21%.

This financial aid will make it possible to increase the number of races at the racecourses managed by the Institute of Equestrian Sport of Mallorca (IEHM), both on Saturdays and Sundays. The forecast increase for this year is for a total of 88 more subsidised horse races than in 2023: 48 more at Son Pardo and 40 more competitions at the Manacor racecourse.
Specifically, in 2023, 202 subsidised races were held at Son Pardo and 352 at the Manacor racecourse. The forecast for 2024 will be 250 races at Son Pardo and 392 races at the Manacor racecourse.
These data have been released after the meeting held this Wednesday between the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés; the second vice president and Minister of Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard; the president of IEHM, Gaspar Oliver, and the president of the Balearic Trotting Federation, Joan Llabata.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, said that “this term of office will recover the splendour of trotting that had been lost in recent years”. Galmés also stressed that the increase in the contribution to the Balearic Trotting Federation “represents the firm commitment of the island’s institution to carry out activities to promote the world of trotting in Mallorca, a discipline with deep roots on the island, which also represents a tourist attraction and an impact on the economy”.
For his part, the second vice-president and councillor for the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, pointed out that “it is extremely important to defend what defines us as a society, what defines us as Mallorcans, and trotting is undoubtedly part of our idiosyncrasy. Protecting it, giving it the place it deserves and promoting it are the pillars on which we are building our work.
“From the very first moment we wanted to increase the subsidy to the Balearic Trotting Federation, because what better way to demonstrate our commitment than to be able to offer the lovers of equestrian sport more races”, Bestard remarked.
Investment budget
The budget item earmarked for investments is the one with the largest increase of 295% in 2024.
The budget allocation for this year is 474,000 euros, which means an increase of 354,000 euros in the investment chapter compared to 2023.
Thus, with this allocation, various works will be carried out throughout the year. At the Manacor racecourse, work will be carried out on the foundations of the stables, the refurbishment of the terrace and garden of the bar located on the lower floor, and the installation of a children’s playground.
In the Palma equestrian centre, cracks will be repaired and the entire facility will be repainted.
These are the main novelties in the budget of the Mallorca Riding Institute, whose total budget amounts to 4,250,900 euros, 18.35% more than in the previous year.
