The aim of the initiative is to promote the culture of trotting and offer leisure activities that allow them to actively participate in it

The Consell de Mallorca is organising free visits to the Son Pardo racecourse so that associations and federations of senior citizens can learn about the world of trotting and attend races. This was announced by the island’s director of Sociocultural Promotion, Hermosinda Mariño Pocoví, who together with the president of the Riding Institute of Mallorca, Gaspar Oliver, accompanied the association of senior citizens of Montuïri on their tour of the equestrian establishment.

The councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, explained that the initiative aims to “bring a sport that is deeply rooted on our island closer to the public and to promote leisure and free-time activities that encourage the participation of the elderly”. Antoni Fuster stressed that “it is essential to make options and resources available to associations so that this group can enjoy different experiences”.

The associations and federations will be able to get to know the racecourse’s facilities, such as the stables and the museum dedicated to trotting inside, with the racecourse’s staff, who have first-hand knowledge of Mallorca’s equestrian history and culture, as well as the practice of this sport.

The island’s director of Sociocultural Promotion emphasised that “we have shown that from the very first moment we have been at the side of the associations and federations to find out about their needs and requests”. So far, eleven associations and centres have already booked their appointments, which is why Pocoví emphasised that “the launch of the visits has demonstrated the interest in equestrian sport and the desire of the elderly to take an active part in the activities”.

All associations and federations of senior citizens can contact by telephone: 971 763 853 to arrange free visits and 971 201 017 if they want to make a reservation for the catering service (snacks or meals).
