Two new grants to town councils to apply the law of animal welfare and the cleaning of municipal roads

In this way, the island institution reinforces the support it provides to the town councils of Mallorca, putting resources within the reach of local entities to deal with the problems they encounter daily. This was explained by the president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés, and the councillor of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, during the meeting of all the mayors of the island.

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, has stated that these two new calls for proposals that will be launched shortly reinforce the island institution’s commitment to municipalism. Galmés stated that “municipalism is one of the pillars of this term of office of the Consell de Mallorca, and this is not just a matter of words, but of deeds”. In this sense, the president stressed that “we have promised to double the investments of the Works and Services Plan, and we are going to allocate a figure never seen before 80 million euros”.

The President also pointed out that, of the 51.2 million euros of the remaining funds that have been activated, 19 million are for investments in the towns and villages, such as the 5 million euros more in aid for town councils to improve water cycle infrastructures and prevent leaks. With the two new calls for subsidies for town councils, Llorenç Galmés stated that “once again, we are standing by the town councils to respond to their problems and demands”.

New animal welfare laws and road cleaning

Councillor Pilar Amate focused her speech on explaining that her department plans to publish a call for grants of 300,000 euros to help local entities implement the new obligations arising from the animal welfare regulations so that they can “comply with the obligation to carry the chip that applies to all dogs and cats, vaccination and castration of abandoned animals, as well as other types of actions included in these regulations”.

The other line of aid, which will be endowed with 200,000 euros, focuses on the cleaning and clearing of the margins and ditches of municipal roads.

“The implementation of these two new lines of subsidies responds to the requests that the mayors have been making to us in recent months, as they have told us of their concern and lack of resources when it comes to complying with the new Spanish animal regulations”, explained the Councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, in this regard.

Strategic Plan for Municipal Cybersecurity

Before the mayors of Mallorca, the island’s director of Municipal Support and Coordination, Beatriz Camiña, detailed the new Strategic Plan for Municipal Cybersecurity to increase security measures through technological awareness, training and protection for town councils. She also explained the status of the Next Generation funds and informed that mayors of municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants will soon be called to distribute laptops as part of security protection.

In addition, about the new advisory body for trade and local products in Mallorca (CAPYCMA), which has just been set up, Amate announced the convening of the first meeting to be held on 29 April, a meeting that will enable the councillors of all the town councils in Mallorca “to discuss the situation of the commercial sector in their municipalities and the problems they face to adopt future measures to revitalise a strategic sector for local economies”, said Amate.
