This Thursday, 2nd May, the Menorca Geology Centre opened its doors to begin its tenth season. It does so with a new temporary exhibition project entitled “Invasive species in the Menorca Biosphere Reserve”, a colourful exhibition that invites you to discover the main invasive species identified in Menorca and the problems that arise, as well as the management and alternatives to deal with their proliferation. The exhibition can be visited during the centre’s opening hours.

“The exhibition is part of the actions that the Menorca Biosphere Reserve Agency is promoting to increase the control and study of invasive species on the island, as well as the dissemination of this problem that affects our biodiversity”, explained the councillor for the Environment, Biosphere Reserve and Cooperation, Simón Gornés.

The new season of the Geology Centre also starts with the participation in Geolodia Day, a great annual event of geological dissemination promoted by the Geological Society of Spain that offers free geological tours open to the public in each of the 50 Spanish provinces. In Menorca, which already has 11 editions participating as a territory, the Geology Centre has organized an excursion to Arenal de en Castell and Son Parc on May 11.

Every year, the Geology Centre will schedule new activities that will alternate recreational and educational workshops with excursions to bring the geological values of Menorca to both family and adult audiences. All of them aim to promote value and environmental awareness about the conservation of the island’s natural environment and especially the elements that make up the geological heritage of Menorca.

The opening hours of the centre during the month of May and October will be from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. From June to September the usual opening hours will be from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm. Admission is free and guided tours for groups can be arranged by writing to
