The Government extends the suspension of access for electric scooters on interurban public transport

The Consorci de Transports de Mallorca (CTM) and Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) have agreed at their respective boards of directors to extend the measure that came into force on 1 December for an initial period of six months. The two entities have agreed to maintain the ban from 1 June, as the risk to users’ safety from fires caused by VMPs remains in force. This measure does not affect access for wheelchairs and vehicles for people with reduced mobility, which are excluded from the definition of VMP in the state regulation.

The agreements provide for the suspension of access to electric MPVs on intercity bus services, trains and the metro. To avoid the risk of fire or explosion in SFM facilities, where the busiest ones are underground, it has also been considered to extend the ban on access to VMPs in its facilities, as well as in the Palma Intermodal station.

This measure, which has also been taken in public transport networks in cities such as Palma, Madrid and Barcelona, was decided following cases of fires caused by explosions in the batteries of this type of vehicle in the Madrid metro and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

In recent months, more bicycle parking has been made available at some stations to promote intermodality in the use of public transport. In addition, users from the Part Forana who come to Palma have access to the Mou-te bé public bicycle service.
