Of the 23 organ donors in the Balearic Islands, 6 were in asystole – a technique that allows organ donation in cardiorespiratory arrest and which was implemented in the public hospitals of the Balearic Islands in 2016 in order to optimise donation – and 16 in brain death. In terms of the number of organs transplanted at Son Espases University Hospital (HUSE), 38 were kidney and 10 liver.

In addition, 3 multi-tissue donations were received (2 at Can Misses and 1 at HUSE) – corresponding to bone, tendon and corneas – and there were 23 donors exclusively of corneal tissues at Son Llàtzer University Hospital.

On the occasion of World Organ and Tissue Donor Day, the public hospitals of the Balearic Islands will have information tables in their centres in collaboration with ALCER (Federation of Associations for the Fight against Kidney Diseases).
