The Consell Insular de Menorca has approved the collaboration agreement with the Menorcan Racecourses for the organisation of trotting races for the year 2024 and with the aim of promoting horses and strategic events for the Menorcan equine sector.

On the other hand, the Reial Societat Hípica de Ciutadella will receive a grant of 6,000 euros. This was founded in 1972 and is in charge of the management of the Torre del Ram racecourse in Ciutadella, organising trotting races since its beginnings. It currently has 200 members and 80 federative licences. During this year 2024, 30 days of races will be held, apart from a day organised by the Consell Insular, as well as the celebration of the Trotting Grand Prix for 2, 3 and 4 year olds.

“The world of horses in Menorca has its own identification and a very unique significance, while it generates considerable sporting and economic activity, especially with the breeding of trotting horses and the maintenance of adult horses, which is an activity with a greater productive diversification. Moreover, trotting is an indigenous sport of the island, and therefore, the promotion of this is a guarantee mark of Menorca, as are the DO cheese and the avarcas,’ says the councillor of Culture, Education, Youth and Sports, Joan Pons Torres.
