The Consell de Govern has authorised the Councillor for Families and Social Affairs to grant a subsidy of 115,000 euros to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). This aid will make it possible to carry out the project “Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica: strengthening the livelihoods and empowerment of migrant women” in these three American countries and is part of the programme “Resilience and economic empowerment of migrant women in Central America and the Caribbean”.

IOM, established in 1951, is part of the United Nations system and is the leading intergovernmental agency in the field of migration. This ten-month project in Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica has the overall objective that migrant women live in more equitable societies and are able to access essential services and contribute to sustainable development in these three countries. The expected effect is that women migrant returnees and entrepreneurs in communities of origin gain access to livelihood and economic empowerment opportunities. It is therefore intended that migrant women will access the labour market and opportunities such as skills development and vocational training, according to their skills, qualifications and aspirations.
