The Regional Minister of Health denounces the Ministry’s inaction in the face of the lack of health professionals this summer

The Regional Minister of Health has described the Interterritorial Council as a mere formality, lacking solutions to the worrying lack of professionals this summer.

García has once again called on the Ministry to adopt, without excuses, extraordinary coordinated measures to alleviate the shortage of professionals.

The lack of health professionals this summer

This morning in Madrid, the Regional Minister of Health, Manuela García, took part in the ordinary plenary session of the Interterritorial Council. At the end, García declared that the meeting, which had a full agenda, did not, however, address the main healthcare problem for the coming months, and was a mere formality lacking in solutions to the worrying lack of professionals for the coming summer period.

The Regional Minister of Health has pointed out that, once again, the Ministry of Health has shirked its responsibilities when it comes to tackling the real problem of the lack of professionals. García stated that, despite having warned months ago of the difficulties that would arise this summer, the minister “has once again distracted attention from what is important: the lack of doctors for primary care and hospital care. We are missing one-off measures for times like these. This is the real problem that needs to be tackled now. Extraordinary measures are necessary if we do not want to complicate the summer even more. This is an unavoidable commitment on the part of the ministry.

The Balearic Islands has planned contracts for summer reinforcements and holiday cover for professionals. Reinforcements have been brought forward and teams of doctors and nurses have been increased to provide care for displaced persons, to cover holidays and to deal with any incidents that may arise. The Primary Care Emergency Services (SUAP) have also been reinforced.
