The projects will consist of reducing the energy expenditure of municipal services, renovating public lighting and investing in photovoltaic self-consumption, among others.

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, stressed “the commitment of the island’s institution to provide funding to the island’s councils so that they can develop municipal management to make our towns and cities more sustainable, which undoubtedly has a positive impact on the local community”.

For her part, the Councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, pointed out “that, thanks to this aid, municipalities will be able to implement improvements aimed at promoting the use of renewable energies and encouraging energy efficiency, key aspects in caring for our environment, as well as reducing consumption and municipal spending”.

Types of projects presented

Of the 387 actions, 36 have been submitted for the purchase of electric vehicles, 27 for photovoltaic installations, 24 for changing and improving lighting and 13 for electric charging points.

In addition, there are 10 projects related to air conditioning, 7 on energy improvements in enclosures, 4 actions related to sanitary hot water and another 4 related to shaded areas and climatic shelters, among others.

These are investments aimed at the implementation and execution of generic actions or investments related to the Covenant of Mayors, signed by the town councils of Mallorca, for the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings and infrastructures.

Specifically, of the total number of projects presented, 271 correspond to generic actions, based on awareness-raising campaigns, the preparation of energy audits or emission monitoring reports, or the preparation of sustainable urban mobility or waste plans.

There are 116 investment actions, which are projects aimed at improving the energy efficiency of public lighting, the purchase of low-emission vehicles or the installation of self-consumption photovoltaic panels for municipal use.

The distribution of aid is determined according to population and ranges from a maximum of 160,300 euros for municipalities of up to 5,000 inhabitants, to 34,200 euros for larger municipalities such as Palma.

This call for subsidies shortens the minimum period required for the replacement of municipally owned vehicles from 10 years to 5 years and expressly establishes the non-requirement of interest for late payment when 80 % of the subsidised project is implemented and makes the modifications to the grant agreement more flexible.
