The Department of Sports advances the call for applications for grants to outstanding sportsmen and women on the island and increases it to 80,000 euros

With this call, Menorcan non-professional sportsmen and sportswomen can obtain minimum resources that allow them to maintain and improve the conditions of their practice to achieve sporting merits beyond the Balearic Islands, whether in national or international events. In addition, this aid allows them to meet expenses related to the cost of their training, travel and accommodation costs in competitions outside Menorca, the cost of registration in sporting events and the cost of complementary services, among others.

The maximum amount of the call is 80,000 euros and each athlete can receive a maximum of 3,500 euros. In the coming days, the call will be published in the BOIB and all interested parties will have until 31 July 2024 to submit their application.

“The Sports Department is once again promoting physical activity. With this call, we want to reward in some way the effort, sacrifice and success of Menorcan athletes who have increasing economic difficulties to do what they like. For this reason, we have increased the call for grants to 80,000 euros, exceeding last year’s 68,000 euros. In addition, we have brought forward the opening of the call for applications right at the end of the season, when in previous years it was expected in October or November”, says Joan Pons Torres, Councillor for Culture, Education, Youth and Sport.
