The promotion of talent and the cultural industries of the Balearic Islands is restored and the score for gender equality measures is increased.

The Institute of Cultural Industries of the Balearic Islands (ICIB) has announced the announcement of a grant with a total budget of 1,000,000 euros for audiovisual production and co-production. Feature films, documentaries, short films, miniseries and web series will be able to benefit from this line of aid in which the promotion of talent and the cultural industries of the Balearic Islands is recovered and the score for gender equality measures is increased.

The managing director of the ICIB, Diana de la Cuadra, explains that this new call “favours co-productions with criteria more in line with the nature of these projects than the previous call, requesting that 125% of the amount subsidised be invested in the Islands”. This line of aid also eliminates the budget limit that existed until now, which excluded productions of more than 1.8 million euros. De la Cuadra explains that “in this way the Balearic Government will be able to support projects with a greater impact, which until now were excluded from the ICIB’s calls for proposals”.

The new call for proposals also introduces sustainability plans for large-scale production as a new point in the assessment criteria. Likewise, procedures are assimilated to other state institutions such as the ICIB in order to simplify the work of beneficiaries when applying for public aid for their projects. This effort is being shared with other institutions to extend it to other institutions in the Balearic Islands. In this way, to standardise procedures and contribute to the professionalisation of the sector.

De la Cuadra reminds us that “although this is an ordinary call for applications, a large part of the work carried out in recent months has been to review and reach a consensus on the format of the subsidy with the sector”.
