The new So n’Oms merging lane onto the airport motorway comes into operation and minimises traffic jams

This access road promoted by the Consell de Mallorca has been extended by 160 metres without using up any land. Originally the lane was 64 metres long, but with the extension, it is now 224 metres long.

The new access lane to the airport motorway (MA-19) from the So n’Oms industrial estate, promoted by the Consell de Mallorca, has come into operation to reduce traffic jams in this enclave, one of the conflictive points on the road. The first assessment of the technicians is that the traffic jams have been minimised this morning. The work consisted of lengthening the road to incorporate the motorway by 160 metres to give more space to vehicles wishing to enter the motorway. In this way, the entry of cars wishing to join the motorway has a much smaller impact on the flow of traffic on the motorway.

Until now, this merging lane was only 64 metres long, but now it has grown to 224 metres. The extension of the merging lane has been carried out without using up territory, using the empty areas of the road. Nor has it been necessary to carry out works, as the paint strips have been modified, which has allowed the lane to be lengthened and given more space to vehicles wishing to enter the motorway.

The technicians of the Consell de Mallorca consider that this is not a definitive solution, and for this reason they are now studying other actions with a plan for accesses to Palma. They assure, however, that it will help to minimise traffic jams, especially at peak traffic hours.

This intervention falls within the framework of the small actions that the Consell de Mallorca has set in motion, with the aim of improving the accesses to Palma and achieving greater traffic flow on the motorways. This is the case of the second exit from the airport to the Llucmajor motorway, the second lane to join the ring road from the Andratx motorway or the zero lanes to enter the Els Reis road or the Can Valero industrial estate.
