The project includes the renovation of the facilities and the impulsion collector, the adaptation of the treatment flows, the improvement of the processes and the deodorisation of the plant.

The Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA) has opened for public consultation the project to extend and improve the treatment of the Portocolom wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), located in the municipality of Felanitx.

The project includes and contains, as main actions, the renovation of the installations and the impulsion collector from Cala Marçal to the WWTP, the adaptation of the latter to the treatment flows, the improvement of the processes, especially the reduction of phosphorus and nitrogen in the treated water, and the deodorisation of the plant through the installation of air treatment elements and the covering of the sludge thickener. Also included is the improvement of the plant’s operability in the event of storms and the renovation of most of the civil works and all the electrical installations.

The Balearic Water Agency will invest 7.8 million euros in the extension and improvement of the Portocolom treatment plant

The budget for the project is 7,840,475.13 euros, VAT included, to which will be added the costs of site management and health and safety during execution. The works are scheduled to be completed in 18 months, after the remaining procedures, which could entail minor modifications to the project to integrate the prescriptions made during the process.

These works, although they are the main action in this system, complement the renovation of the transformer that feeds the installations, which has already been carried out, and the repair of two anomalies in the plant’s outfall, which were awarded at the end of May and will begin shortly.

Currently, more than 25% of the treated water is reused annually for irrigation of the Vall d’Or golf course, with figures of more than 50% during the summer periods.
