With this programme, the Consell de Mallorca avoids having to purchase all the material and having to store it.

The Insular Directorate of Emergencies has introduced a new system for the replacement of the wardrobe and complements of the Bombers de Mallorca. This is an innovative and pioneering programme in Spain that allows each firefighter to request only the clothing he/she needs to replace, without having to purchase the entire wardrobe. In this way, each firefighter places the order himself with the company and receives it directly.

The Bombers de Mallorca set up a new pioneering system of wardrobe replacement

The new system, which has been in operation since the wardrobe replacement contract was renewed, awards 500 points per year to each firefighter, equivalent to €500. With these points, each firefighter can apply on the website of the company awarded the contract for the wardrobe he or she needs, whether clothing or accessories and receive it directly, without the Consell de Mallorca acting as an intermediary.

This saves the Consell de Mallorca from having to buy and deliver all the clothes, as well as having to store all the material. Up to now, all items of clothing and all sizes had to be in stock, often in excess, as it was not possible to know what material would be needed.

Joan Fornàs, the island’s Director of Emergencies, explained that “with this new programme we offer firefighters the entire catalogue of clothing and accessories so they can renew their equipment. But, at the same time, we achieve economic savings for the Consell de Mallorca by not having to buy all the material, not having to purchase pieces we don’t need and not having to occupy facilities to store it”.

The contract includes almost all personal clothing, except for personal protective equipment (PPE). The budget for this new programme is €478,346.36 for two years and provides firefighters with general or everyday clothing, as well as various accessories: T-shirts, trousers, polo shirts, jackets, fleece linings, waterproof jackets and trouser covers, caps, belts, executioners, neck covers, bags and rescue knives.
