Spain begins a new transfer of ‘Leopard’ battle tanks to Ukraine

The first phase of transport, from Seville to Ferrol, was carried out by land last week. Once loaded onto a Ro-Ro vessel for the second phase of transport, by sea, the ship left Ferrol at midday on Saturday 13 July.

It is expected to arrive at a Polish port before next weekend. Once in Poland, it will begin its protected transport by land, to the point of delivery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will be responsible for the last phase of movement through Ukraine until it is made available to the operational units of the Ukrainian Army. Security measures are being taken at all stages of this important movement.

With this new shipment of ‘Leopard’ 2A4 battle tanks, Spain has donated a total of 20 of these tanks to Ukraine. A further donation is planned for the second half of 2024.
