The initiative arises from the need to establish common processes applicable to the data assets of any organisation throughout its life.

The aim is to have efficient data management, with appropriate levels of quality and security, and with a common evaluation methodology.

The Govern de les Illes Balears (Government of the Balearic Islands) constituted this Friday the data governance round table, which arose from the need to establish common processes applicable to the data assets of all organisations throughout their life. The meeting, which took place in Parc Bit, involved the Directorate General for Innovation and Digital Transformation, the Directorate General for Digital Strategy and Administrative Simplification, the Directorate General for Economics and Statistics, the Directorate General for Coordination and Transparency, the Cartographic and Geographic Institute of the Balearic Islands, the Statistical Institute of the Balearic Islands and the Balearic Agency for Digitalisation, Cybersecurity and Telecommunications.

The Government sets up the data governance round table

This roundtable aims to have data that is well governed, managed and with adequate levels of quality and security, and with a common evaluation methodology that can help to continuously improve processes and allow the maturity of an organisation to be evaluated in a standardised way.

In addition, the data governance round table will focus on the need to automate procedures to gain efficiency, advance in semantic interoperability (a common semantics for the entire organisation), establish standards in all phases of data (creation, storage, management and visualisation) and manage information security, among others.

The meeting discussed the creation of a Data Office, responsible for designing and proposing strategies to promote the management and use of data throughout all the productive sectors of the economy and society of the Balearic Islands. Likewise, the need to create a data government, of a strategic nature, to evaluate, direct and monitor the use of the Government’s data was also stressed.
