78.5% of families choose Catalan as their first language of instruction and 16% prefer Spanish.

To comply with article 135 of Law 1/2022 of 8 March on education in the Balearic Islands (LEIB), the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities has guaranteed that for the next school year 2024/2025, families will be able to choose the language of first education for their children.

Thus, when registering all pupils who will attend the 4th year of nursery school in any publicly funded centre in the Balearic Islands next academic year, families could choose between the two official languages of the Balearic Islands.
