The councillor for Families and Social Affairs reiterates her support for the Food Bank

At this meeting, Cirer conveyed to the president of the Food Bank Foundation, Raimundo Montis, the Government’s support for the Food Bank’s work and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to the imminent entry into force of the new system of food distribution through purse cards promoted by the Spanish Government as part of the ESF+ Basic Material Assistance (BASIC) programme. According to current estimates, Cirer said, “This card system will only reach around 1,500 families in the Balearic Islands, leaving out many other profiles in need. We must remember that the Food Bank helps more than 30,000 people”.

The councillor pointed out that the Food Bank received more than 300,000 euros in 2023 and is preparing a call for applications for aid for 2024 with funds from the 0.7% of income tax collection for food supply organisations.
