The Ministry of Equality condemns a new murder of a woman in the province of A Coruña due to gender violence

This is a 74-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by her husband on 2 August 2024. There were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

With the confirmation of this case, the number of women killed by gender violence in Spain rose to 28 in 2024 and to 1,272 since 2003, when these data began to be collected.

The number of children orphaned by gender violence in Spain is 21 in 2024 and 454 since 2013.

The Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, once again wish to express their absolute condemnation and rejection of this sexist murder and convey their full support to the families and friends of the victims. Both the minister and the delegate call for all efforts from the institutions, administrations and society as a whole to arrive in time and prevent more deaths.

The Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, reminds that the 016 telephone number, online consultations via email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel on the number 600 000 016 and the online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, operate 24 hours a day, every day of the week. At 016 you can ask for advice on the resources available and the rights of victims of all forms of violence against women, as well as legal advice from 8 am to 10 pm every day of the week, with attention in 53 languages and a service adapted to possible situations of disability.

On the other hand, it also reminds us that in an emergency, you can call 112 or the emergency numbers of the National Police (091) and the Guardia Civil (062). If it is not possible to make a call in a dangerous situation, the ALERTCOPS application can be used, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation.

These means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender violence. It is the duty of society as a whole.
