The service’s activity has increased by 5% compared to the same period in 2023.

In 2023, the Emergency Department of the Hospital de Manacor attended a total of 80,000 patients. In the period between January and July 2023 a total of 38,400 patients were attended while in the same dates of 2024, the figures exceeded 40,700 patients attended. The head of the service, Pere Serra, stresses that this activity has seen a sharp increase in the night shift. Nursing triage, a very important and strategic element of the service, has had to be increased by two consultations in recent years at peak times.

The Emergency Department of the Hospital de Manacor attends to 40,700 patients in the first half of 2024

During the summer months, as in previous years, the activity has increased due to the floating population in the area of influence of the Hospital de Manacor, that is, in the tourist areas of Artà, Sant Llorenç, Manacor, Felanitx and Santanyí, among others. During this period, the most common pathologies are trauma, nephritic colic and gastroenteritis.

As the head of the service points out, the population must remember that before going to a hospital emergency department they should consider going first to a primary care centre. If they have to go to the hospital emergency department, they will be seen according to their clinical situation and not on a first-come, first-served basis. When patients arrive at the nursing triage, the preliminary clinical assessment process sorts them according to the degree of urgency and prioritises their care according to the severity of each case. There are 5 levels of severity: number 1 is a patient suffering from a life-threatening illness and number 5 is non-urgent. The approximate waiting time for medical attention depends on the level that has been assigned to each patient.

As a reminder of how the service works and the levels of nursing triage, informative posters have been made for patient waiting rooms and paediatric patient waiting rooms.
