The aim is to maximise coverage for citizens and to improve the management and coordination of emergency and security operations.

IB Digital will provide the infrastructure this summer in Menorca and Eivissa, and in the case of Formentera it is expected to arrive by mid-2025.

The government presents a transportable telecommunications centre for remote areas and major events

The councillor of the Presidency and Public Administrations, Antònia Estarellas, and the manager of the Balearic Agency for Digitalisation, Cybersecurity and Telecommunications (IB Digital), Miquel Cardona, presented the innovative transportable telecommunications centre this Friday in Sineu’s Plaça del Mercat, which will be present next Monday in this municipality, on the occasion of the Fiesta del Much. The presentation was also attended by the mayor of Sineu, Tomeu Mulet, and the president of the Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands, Jaume Ferriol.

“The transportable telecommunications centre is an innovative solution that marks a significant advance in the communications infrastructure of the Balearic Islands. Designed to be deployed rapidly, this centre offers exceptional coverage in remote areas and during large-scale events such as the Fiesta del Much. This rapid deployment capability allows a substantial improvement in the management and coordination of emergency operations, especially in areas with limited or non-existent infrastructure,” said the manager of IB Digital.

Thus, this station allows effective coordination, and access to data in real-time to optimise decision-making and geolocate devices to efficiently manage resources in emergencies.

IB Digital will add these transportable stations, which are funded through the insularity factor, in Eivissa and Menorca this summer, with a third planned for Formentera in mid-2025. In addition, IB Digital provides additional support in emergencies with the loan of TetraIB portable terminals.

The new transportable telecommunications centre will be available to all law enforcement agencies on request.

“Having these modern telecommunications systems is a great help because they are able to reach any place without losing the direct connection between emergency bodies such as the local police or Civil Protection volunteers of the municipalities, and also with the citizens. This improves the management of emergencies and makes citizens feel safer and more protected,” said the councillor for the Presidency and Public Administrations.

TetraIB Network

The transportable telecommunications centre includes a station from the TetraIB network, which is the advanced digital communications platform that facilitates effective coordination between the security and emergency services and other public bodies in the Balearic Islands. The network currently has 59 base stations in operation and plans to install 40 more over the next four years, achieving a future coverage of 90% of the Balearic Islands. The transportable station will help to significantly improve the network’s coverage in emergency situations, reaching almost anywhere in the Balearic Islands.

The main users of this network include the Emergency Corps, IBANAT, SAMU, the Fire Brigade of Mallorca and the Local Police.
