The transformation will be subsidised with 1.26 million euros of Next Generation Funds

The Consell de Mallorca is modernising the municipal census management systems of the island’s town councils with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, which will improve the efficiency and accuracy of the data and facilitate rapid access to the data needed to carry out various administrative procedures.

This digital transformation of the municipal census system will be subsidised with 1,260,000 euros from the Next Generation Funds, which is part of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

The Consell de Mallorca modernises the registers of the town councils to favour quick access to the necessary data for several administrative procedures

The project presented by the Island’s Municipal Support and Coordination Department, with the help of the European Funds Office of the Department of the Presidency, covers a total of 46 municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, and its main objective is to improve efficiency and accuracy in the management of census data, facilitating a more agile administration that is closer to citizens.

The Councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, expressed her satisfaction “for having been able to access these Next Generation Funds, which will serve to modernise the municipal census systems, allowing for more integrated and up-to-date information management, favouring informed decision-making and rapid access to the data necessary for various administrative procedures”.

For her part, the island’s Director of Municipal Support and Coordination, Beatriz Camiña, pointed out that “these resources will serve to solve one of the main problems faced by some local authorities since most of the island’s municipalities have census systems based on very old technologies that make them very difficult to use and manage”.

Specifically, an exercise will be carried out to purge the current data, a census of dwellings will be created, and tools will be implemented to manage territorial information in an efficient and standardised manner.

Councillor Pilar Amate underlined the fundamental role of these initiatives “to promote a modern, efficient and citizen-oriented public administration”.
