Emergencies lower the severity index in Ibiza and Formentera

The Directorate General of Emergencies (DGEI) of the Government of the Balearic Islands has decreed this afternoon to change the Severity Index 2 (IG-2) to IG-1 of the METEOBAL plan for rain and storms on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera while it has opted to maintain the IG-2 level in Mallorca and Menorca. This measure, which was agreed during the meeting of the technical advisory committee of the METEOBAL and INUNBAL plans, chaired by director-general Sebastià Sureda, involves lifting the ban on outdoor activities on the islands.

However, given the intensity of rainfall in Menorca in recent hours, with the consequent risk of flooding, it has been decided to modify the operational situation of the INUNBAL plan, going from SO-1 to SO-2. This change in the operational situation enables the Government of the Balearic Islands to deploy the entire operational structure that may be required based on the needs of the emergency.

The General Directorate of Emergencies continues to recommend extreme caution due to the persistent risks associated with rain and storms.
