The new subsidy of the government has benefited 150 families of the entity

The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, visited the summer school of Amadiba, one of the organisations participating in the adapted leisure programme subsidised by the Balearic government. In this first year of free-adapted leisure, 150 families of the entity with children and young people aged between 3 and 18 years and a degree II or III of dependence have benefited from this aid.

Amadiba’s summer schools provide a fun space for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other behavioural disorders, but they also guarantee direct and specialised attention to these children and young people with a high number of assigned professionals and support technicians.

It is worth remembering that in 2024 the government will allocate €680,000 for adapted leisure activities out of the total of 1.6 million euros of the call approved by the Consell de Govern last April for the non-school periods from 2024 to 2026. In this way, social integration in the community the improvement of the quality of life and the promotion of the personal autonomy of children and young people with degree II or III of dependence derived from functional diversity are promoted. In this way, the right to leisure is guaranteed for these people and support is provided for their families to reconcile work and family life.

‘It was a commitment in our government programme’, said Prohens, “which I reiterated a year ago to the families at the festival held every year by Amadiba, and today, a year later, it is a satisfaction to be able to return having kept our word and knowing that 150 families with children with grade II or III dependency have been able to save up to 100% of the cost of the summer school”.

The organisations that have taken part in the adapted leisure programme are Amadiba, Amiticia, Asnimo, Aspace, Fundació per a persones amb Discapacitat de Menorca, Fundació Patronat Joan XXIII d’Inca and Mater.

‘This service is not a whim’, said the president, “but a necessity and, as of this year, a right”.

The visit was also attended by the Councillor for Families and Social Affairs, Catalina Cirer, and the Director General for Dependency Care, Pedro Codes.
