The eleven schools on the Islands that applied to be included in the Voluntary Pilot Plan for Free Choice of Language have fulfilled the requirements set out in the resolution of the Regional Ministry of Education, and will therefore be able to take part in this plan, which aims to guarantee full and equivalent educational competence in the two official languages, reinforce the autonomy of the centre, provide the centres with additional means to acquire communicative competence in Catalan and Spanish, apply evaluation and improvement instruments specific to the education system and achieve educational success and equity, as well as equal opportunities, to ensure that all pupils reach their optimum level of learning.

The assessment tests for the Voluntary Pilot Plan for Free Choice of Language will be held in October

In these primary schools, the Voluntary Pilot Plan for Free Choice of Language will begin to be applied during the school year starting on 11 September. As established, pupils will have to pass some assessment tests at the beginning of the school year and others at the end. The first tests will take place in October. The Institut d’Avaluació i Qualitat del Sistema Educatiu (IAQSE) will be in charge of these diagnostic tests.

The Plan will be implemented over three school years, and once the pilot test has been completed, the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities will evaluate the results.

In this first year, the Regional Ministry will allocate to schools an additional six hours for each group of pupils where the Pilot Plan is implemented, at an approximate cost of €1,038,000. The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities will allocate the remainder of the budget initially earmarked for this plan to other educational initiatives.
