The Consell de Govern has approved the appointment of Maria Castro Amor as Director General for Dependency Care, replacing Pedro Codes Pericàs, who is stepping down for personal reasons.

Maria Castro, new director general for Dependency Care
Maria Castro holds a degree in Economics from the University of the Balearic Islands and a Master’s degree in Finance, the tax system, and tax procedures. She has an outstanding professional career in social services, where she has held various positions of responsibility.
From 2020 to the present, she has been the technical director of the Es Garrover Foundation, and previously, she was the coordinator of the Federació Plena Inclusió Illes Balears (FOQUA). Castro also has experience in the public sector, where she has held positions in the Government of the Balearic Islands and Palma City Council.
The Consell de Govern has also approved the dismissal of Pedro Codes Pericàs as Director General for Dependency Care. Codes have led from the Department of Families and Social Affairs the free adapted leisure for children with dependency associated with a disability; the implementation of direct aid for people diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as well as the promotion of the shock plan to reduce waiting lists for disability assessment.
