The 100 years of excavations in Alcúdia and the opening of the monastery of Artà to the public are commemorated with the famous piano and 200 candles by David Gómez.

The Consell de Mallorca combines culture and heritage and organises two major concerts in Pollentia and Bellpuig. The vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, announced that ‘the aim is to commemorate 100 years of excavations in the Roman city of Alcúdia and the opening of the monastery of Artà to the public with the famous piano and the 200 candles of David Gómez’.

Roca explained that the famous pianist will bring his show ‘1 piano and 200 candles’ to these two very special places in Mallorca. In this way, says the vice-president and councillor, ‘all the island’s citizens are invited to enjoy these two celebrations in two incomparable places that will shine in the light of David Gómez’s 200 candles’. The concert in the Roman city of Pol-lèntia (Alcúdia) will take place next Saturday, the 7th of September, at 8:30 pm.

Some 300 free tickets were posted on Ticketib.com last Thursday, 22 August, and sold out in less than 24 hours. Now, says Roca, they are studying how to increase the capacity so that more people can attend. As for the concert in Bellpuig (Artà), it will be on Saturday, the 28th of September, at 8 pm, and tickets will be on sale soon.

The aim, Roca explains, is to raise awareness of the great archaeological sites on Mallorca, which are often unknown to the island’s residents. Furthermore, on 28 September, with the concert in Bellpuig, the monastery will be opened to the public, a measure that was an electoral commitment announced by the vice-president and councillor last summer: ‘a year ago I denounced the neglect suffered by this heritage jewel of Mallorca, and we have done a lot of work to open the doors of the monastery to the public to turn it into a heritage and cultural space’. It should be noted that the Consell de Mallorca placed the Bellpuig bell in the chapel four years after it was donated last October.

David Gómez

The pianist has already performed in Mallorca on other occasions, and his concerts have a very special reputation and maximum audience. ‘Gómez’s staging, amidst candles and delicate melodies, ensures a show that, combined with an incomparable heritage setting, is sure to thrill all spectators’, Roca said.
