She highlighted the commitment to research and stressed that the needs of the Balearic Islands’ students have been met.

The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, highlighted the joint work between the Government and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), ‘in a coordinated way, making a common front in matters that have required it and always working with institutional loyalty and respect for university autonomy’.

Prohens highlights the joint work between the Government and the Universitat de les Illes Balears based on institutional loyalty and respect for university autonomy

Prohens made this statement in her speech at the solemn opening of the academic year at the UIB, in which she also highlighted the work carried out in terms of supporting the optimal functioning of the University, in the commitment to research, and in responding to the needs of the students of the Balearic Islands.

The President reviewed the issues that have been worked on over the last year, in which the necessary resources have been invested to guarantee stable funding for the University, with the signing of the contract programme for 2023-2026. Prohens emphasised the commitment to research: ‘We are clear that the University of the Balearic Islands is our main research centre’.

Prohens also stressed that students’ needs have been met and recalled the approval of free university tuition with a plan of exemptions for students with low incomes or good grades, the expansion of new degrees, and the UIB’s second student residence, which will be located in the future District of the Arts. The processing of this project is about to begin.
