The Consell de Mallorca organises the first Fiesta de la Pastelería y de los Hornos on the occasion of the celebration of the Diada de Mallorca (Day of Mallorca)

A gastronomic event with Mallorcan produce as the protagonist and top-quality ingredients, which are necessary for the preparation of the island’s typical pastries and bakery products. Seven of the island’s traditional bakeries will be taking part in the event: Pastelería Pomar, Fornet de la Soca, Trias Pastissers, La Oliva, Dulcelíaco, Forn Ca na Juanaineta and Narez i Cuart.

The Councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, and the island’s Director of Economic Promotion and Local Product, Álvaro Roca, presented the exhibition, which will take place between 5 and 8 p.m., with free admission and free tasting.

Councillor Pilar Amate pointed out that, with this activity, ‘we wanted to give the bakery and patisserie sector, both traditional and more modern and innovative businesses, the opportunity to become more visible’.

‘Mallorca has a wide range of classic and traditional confectionery products, many of which are deeply rooted in our traditions and popular festivals, so we felt it was essential to highlight this gastronomic culture by holding a special event dedicated to our bakeries,’ said Pilar Amate.

The gastronomic event will consist of a free sample of typical island bakery and pastry products. There will be ensaimadas, cremadillos (sweet and savoury), empanadas, ‘cocarrois’ and potato cakes, among other traditional delicacies of Mallorcan gastronomy.

There will also be a space dedicated to show cooking, in which each participating establishment will have time to demonstrate their cooking techniques.

At the same time, an event will be organised to pay tribute to confectioners from different parts of the island for their professional careers, and they will be presented with an award in recognition of their contribution to Mallorcan gastronomy.
The Association of Chefs Based in the Balearic Islands (ASCAIB) and the Federation of Associations of Chefs and Pastry Chefs of Spain (FACYRE Balearic Islands) have participated in the organisation of the event.
